Data is the collection of information which is modified or altered to use efficiently based on the purpose. Data is the values or symbols which convey some meaningful information. The processed information is useful for efficient movements.
Data is assembling of values which convey the details of the information such as quantity and quality. The data can be further modified or converted to some forms which results in the efficient and required form. Usually data is represented in the forms of tables to have better visualization and understanding. Data is also known as factual information which is used in measurements or statistics. Data is used for analysis , reasoning and calculation .
The data can be stored or converted to electric signals as per the requirement. Data is recorded mechanically, electrically and optically.
Data vs Information
Information is the collection of unprocessed data i.e raw facts.
When the information is unmodified it is called raw facts and when we apply some operations on the raw facts , it is termed as data.
For example,
- an not this apple .
- 6, 0 ,3 ,7,2
- s,f,w,r,e,o,t,a
This information do not convey any meaning . If we apply or process the information with specific operations , the information turns into data .
- This is not apple. ( Rearranging the words)
- 0,2,3,6,7 ( Sorted in ascending order)
- software ( forming a meaningful word)
In each example mentioned above , they convey some message when it goes through alterations which is data.
Representation of data
Data refers to the values that represent events , ideas, things and people .
Data is represented in the form of Audio, Text or multimedia (image, video...etc). Graph representation of data include Bar chart, Frequency distribution table, Histogram, Pie chart, Line graph...etc.
Data types
Data is broadly classifies into four types .
- Primary data
- Secondary data
- Quantitative data
- Qualitative data
Primary data :
Data that is collected for the first time . The data on which the statistical operations are not performed.
Secondary data :
The data that is sourced by the other person. The source is not the primary user. This is the data which is previously gathered by some people or organization.
Quantitative data:
The data that is represented numerically. On this data all the numerical operations are performed to convert into efficient form .
Qualitative data:
The data that represents characteristics or attributes. This data cannot undergo numerical modifications i.e cannot be computed.
